Tinker - aka CKC, FCC, UKC CH Slushpuppy's Special Sleigher, HIC earned her UKC Championship this weekend with three Group Firsts and one reserve best in show! She was in full Winter coat, unlike every other dog I own, and so I took her. Glad I did!
I sent Meme and Dozer South of the border for a Malamute Club Specialty weekend - little Meme won BOS in the Specialty Sweeps - along with Reserve Winners Female (an entry of 12 females) at the actual Specialty! Dozer had fun, showed well, but is 'growing' into himself so no real wins for him :) I think we are done with shows for a while, back to training for dryland and running for this Fall! Both puppies also passed their first CERF (eye certifications)!
Puppies Meme and Dozer went to their first CKC show this past weekend, with Meme winning two Best of Breeds / Best of Winners / Best Puppy in Breed - and five points toward her CKC Championship. Dozer received one Best of Breed / Best of Winners / Best Puppy in Breed - and a total of two points for his efforts. Good puppies! But their dear, old 'great, great' uncle Ernie shocked us all and won TWO Best in Shows (altered class) - at almost eleven-and-a-half years of age! The furry dollies had a great weekend!
I took six month old Meme, Dozer and their mom, Tinker, to a UKC show in Quebec this past weekend. Little Meme came home with three 'Best of Winners', three Best of Breeds, three Group Firsts - and one adult Best in Show and an adult Reserve Best in Show! Meme should meet the requirements for her first championship and will be BIMBS RBIMBS UKC CH Slushpuppy's Voodoo Envy! Since she was 'finished' she didn't do the fourth show. Her brother Dozer won 'Best of Winners', Best of Breed, and one Group First. Good puppies! Will update their pages when I get the show photographs :)
Their mom was entered in the weight pull, winning her class (80 - 100 pounds - she's 98 pounds) and did pull several times. Tinker hasn't taken to dirt pulls and, while she does well with snow pulls, isn't as fond of the dirt carts so she's definitely improved some since the last pull she was in, two years ago. All three 'Slushpuppys' did very well! Ernie, Dozer and Meme went to this Winterfest, the puppies first 'public event' - and had a great time meeting people, playing, playing on the sled - and meeting their first cat! Is always a great time here!
Ernie, Ooky and Tinker came back 'clear' (do not possess the defective gene and do not have the disease) for polyneuropathy, a life-ruining disease in Alaskan Malamutes. Many, if not most Malamutes with this disease, end up dead (or put to sleep) due to how severely the dog is affected with this particular disease.
After I'd bred Tinker, a DNA test became available commercially, to see if a dog 'carried' one copy of the bad gene or two (two copies meaning the dog is affected with the disease). One copy is harmless - although it should not be bred to another dog carrying a copy. If you wish to read about the disease and check for dogs with the test please see: http://www.ampoly.info/ As of August 30, 2012, Tinker had her babies. If you watch the 'puppies' page I will post a few pictures each week.
Tinker was bred recently and there will be puppies toward the end of August.
