Tinker, Ernie and I travelled up around Toronto for a CKC show first weekend of December. Ernie was along for the ride, and not entered. We only entered the Friday and Saturday and on the Saturday Tinker recieved two more points toward her CKC CH and now only needs two points to finish (she already has her FCC CH) under Judge Beverly Capstick. You need 10 points to attain a CKC CH and one two-point win (must have won against more than two dogs). Unfortunately, there are very, very few Malamutes shown at dog shows anymore and 'wins' are pretty rare.

Ms Ook and Ms Tink attended the second, and final dryland race of the year (these are 'fun event's). Ms Ook earned her very own gold patch this year for the 6.4 km single class! Now she has earned a 'top win' in both weight pull and dryland racing! Go, Ms Ook, go!!
Ook and Tinker attended a dryland race in October. Ms Ook recieved a 'bronze' for her class, while Tinker entered a purebred, two-dog special race to try to qualify for a SD title. I ran Tink solo and she missed a qualifying time by two minutes. Ah well, still fun!
Ooky, Tinker and I went to a weekend weight pull and 'Malamute' demonstration first weekend of October. Ms Ook WON the weight pull! She pull about 40 pounds under 1000. Ooky didn't do weight pulls until about two years ago. We had great fun, and introduced new people to the sport and breed, too.
Ernie and I attended a two-day workshop for 'Pet First Aid' and offered by a National organization, Wag and Walks. I've taken other, online courses, however, given the number of 'live' events I now attend, I thought it would be wise to have some form of 'in-person' emergency training to my credit. It was exceedingly difficult to find any 'live' courses as the St John's First Aid for Pets is not offered much, if at all. In the US, the Red Cross trains people in Pet First Aid, however they do not, in Canada. Ernie also attended, as a 'demonstration dog' for the various wrappings we performed. He, too, recieved a certificate!
Tinker is now FCC CH Slushpuppy's Special Sleigher HIC (Championship from la Fédération Canine du Canada)! She recieved four 'excellent' critiques (her construction, coat, conditioning, movement) and two Best of Breeds and two Best Opposite Sex wins. Dogs compete against the breed standard first, before competing against each other. These shows are designed more for breeders than professional handlers. There are 10 groups and many, many more breeds in them, than in CKC or AKC. They are also a fantastic event as all the emphasis goes toward the dog, and not the wins.
Tinker, Ernie and I traveled to Halifax, Nova Scotia for this years National Specialty where the dogs and I had a great time. See Ernie's page for details and to see his portrait photograph.
There are three weight pull event - along with other events - planned for this Summer - one for each of June, July and August and I will be at all of them with my Alaskan Malamutes. They are all near Toronto, Ontario, Canada and cost about $15 each or for each event. I will have harnesses and info on hand for people to use (free - as long as they are entered) so you can try your dog - any breed welcome - and I have sizes for ALL sizes! See the following for more information:
http://www.partywiththebigdogs.com/ June 25, 2011- K9 Swim Club leg - Carney's K9 Swim Club - Brantford, ON July 23, 2011- Superdog Central leg - Superdog Central, Bowmanville, ON August 27, 2011 - Maplelane Goldens leg - Maplelane Goldens, Alliston, ON Ernie, Tinker and I drove up to the NOWDA Group Specialty show in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada where there are usually a number of Alaskan Malamutes entered and the 'Alaskan Malamute' people up here are great! Tinker has not been shown much but is now pretty much grown up. She lost significant amounts of her coat unfortunately out the window on the 16 hour drive up! Oh well ... Ernie, who was nine years in February, was entered in his first show - via the new CKC altered class. He was also entered in the veteran sweepstakes (since he's old enough for that, too). Ernie received beautiful ribbons for his 'sweepstakes' win (he was the only male in that class) BUT also had TWO group firsts in the altered class regular CKC show because there were other breeds entered!! Each win was quite special! He wasn't entered in the third show as Tinker was a little ill (from eating umm, garbage as I later discovered) and so we left a few hours early. When we got home, Ernie was a little ill - but I have no idea what he ate. Leave it to a Malamute to eat something rotten! Both were fine in a few days. Now Ernie has points toward his CKC Altered Championship :)
I added many portrait, working, event, head shot, and event pictures for my Alaskan Malamutes to each of their pages. They show Alaska Malamutes working, playing - and each of my Alaskan Malamute puppies as they grew into adults :) It is also Ooky's brithday today :)
