Ernie and I attended a two-day workshop for 'Pet First Aid' and offered by a National organization, Wag and Walks. I've taken other, online courses, however, given the number of 'live' events I now attend, I thought it would be wise to have some form of 'in-person' emergency training to my credit. It was exceedingly difficult to find any 'live' courses as the St John's First Aid for Pets is not offered much, if at all. In the US, the Red Cross trains people in Pet First Aid, however they do not, in Canada. Ernie also attended, as a 'demonstration dog' for the various wrappings we performed. He, too, recieved a certificate!

Tinker is now FCC CH Slushpuppy's Special Sleigher HIC (Championship from la Fédération Canine du Canada)! She recieved four 'excellent' critiques (her construction, coat, conditioning, movement) and two Best of Breeds and two Best Opposite Sex wins. Dogs compete against the breed standard first, before competing against each other. These shows are designed more for breeders than professional handlers. There are 10 groups and many, many more breeds in them, than in CKC or AKC. They are also a fantastic event as all the emphasis goes toward the dog, and not the wins.
Tinker, Ernie and I traveled to Halifax, Nova Scotia for this years National Specialty where the dogs and I had a great time. See Ernie's page for details and to see his portrait photograph.
