Ernie, Ook and Tinker went to the Mush Larose weight pull (snow) and had a great time. Ook and Ernie took home golds while Tinky, the Terrorist was hooked up to several 'new' friends and run. No weight pull for her but she had a couple of fantastic runs with new people and dog friends!
Had a great weekend during my birthday doing a weight pull demonstration event at this event held by the Honey Harbor community and Spiritrun Malamutes. Ernie, Ooky, Tinker and I travelled throguh the mostly ghastly conditions possible to enjoy what turned out to be fantastic weather for the rest of the weekend. Ook, Ernie each had a few turns on the sled. We don't get much snow in 'this' region - because I think it all goes up there!
Tinker, Ooky and Ernie each came home with some nice working wins. Only Ooky did all four pulls (a very, very tough two days). In the end we all had a great deal of fun and there were around 18 dogs in competition - with most being Alaskan Malamutes. Ooky came home with all golds win, Tinker with three silver win and nine year old Ernie a bronze win, silver win and gold win - and one 'DQ" for peeing in the weight pull chute! This is NOT a win! :)
While I am sure I will find something to say about my own Alaskan Malamutes, I am more likely to use it to inform people of events, information, news, possible rescue Malamutes, etc and only one or two Emails a month.
AN RSS feed is like a small collection of bookmarks to usually a Blog, and in my case, my Alaskan Malamute blog! You will recieve updates to your computer whenever I do something with this page, including changes or additions to the Web site. It doesn't go to your Email, no one can see it, and you have to actually look to get them. Some people like RSS feeds, others don't really care.
Slushpuppy Alaskan Malamutes now has its own domain - http://www.myalaskanmalamute.com
(and http://www.myalaskanmalamutes.com/) but my Email Address remains slushpuppymals@sympatico.ca while the Puppy Application is located at http://slushpuppy.50webs.com/app.htm (for now). The original Base Page with a nice Flash animation is at http://slushpuppy.50webs.com/ but it doesn't appear if you are using an iPad or iPhone or iTouch. I will likely change these around in a few months once the search engines pick up the new domain name. Highly unlikely I will link my Youtube or Facebook account (though I do have them). Ernie and I went to Toronto, On to 'demonstrate' working qualities and abilities with an Alaskan Malamutes. Both events were geared toward pets, so large numbers of dogs (which I don't have) would not have been all that useful. The first event, last week of November, focussed on carting, and in the Malamutes case, scootering, since my cart is far too large, heavy and ground-wrecking to use. The second demonstration had hundreds of people come, as part of a Winterfest Celebration and which focussed on the Northern Breeds, in particular. We went between the harborfront demonstrations and Pawsway, where Ernie met dozens and dozens of kids, adults and other dogs. He was one pooped little man driving home (in a blizzard).
The old Web (Wordpress Blog) proved to be a poor choice for a Web site. Most people are only interested in the pictures and information about either a new Malamute, or their current Malamute. I had to learn Wordpress to teach it - but now that I'm teaching something else (Weebly) - I decided to build a functioning Web again. This entire site is built in Weebly. It has a Blog (this page) and I will likely update it with small bits of information as needed, like once a month. Permanent base page is ALWAYS http://slushpuppy.50webs.com/ and I have a nice Flash-based file with all the dogs in it if you like that sort of thing.
An interesting thing to note about Weebly is, that while it is very easy to use, it requires extensive MANUAL customization for search engine optimization (SEO). I don't think I would have used it, had I not been teaching it. If you are a small business, whether dog breeder, or dog product, you might want to look into the level of work required to optimize your Web site, with or without a domain name, to secure search engine rankings BEFORE you go ahead and use it. I can't imagine most small business owners having the time or knowledge to actually go to all that trouble. Google, for example, will DROP your site significantly if you don't do the customizations. Hmm, this looks like a fun way to build a furry dolly web site!
